In Conversation with YA Author Rebecca James - Wrap Up

Last night, YA lovers braved the cold for a warm evening of literary banter, laughter and publishing insight, at Paperchain Bookstore in Manuka, where I spoke with Young Adult sensation Rebecca James.

Rebecca and her family moved to Canberra around 18 months ago, and it was a delight to chat with her regarding her meteoric rise in the YA genre (she has been referred to as ‘the new JK Rowling’ by the Wall Street Journal, as well as her newest novel, Sweet Damage (Allen & Unwin). Rebecca's first novel, Beautiful Malice (also A&U) was an international sensation, selling rights to 52 countries.

Rebecca and I talked about her inspiration for her work, the way she writes, plots (she's a pantser, not a plotter) and creates her characters. She also gave us some fascinating insight into her publishing journey and the incredible success she has enjoyed (and will no doubt continue to enjoy).

Learn more about Rebecca's work here - www.rebeccajamesbooks.com. Warmest thanks to Kelli-anne of the ACT Writers Centre for organising this very special event.

Lastly, huge thanks to budding photographer, Clay Davis (just 14!) for these great photos.
