Eight years of playdough modeling has paid off…
Well, it ain’t no Sylvia Weinstock creation, but – thanks to Riley’s playdough inspiration – I managed to pull off a bunny cake for Ella’s eight birthday. Who’da thought nearly a decade of modeling bunnies, bananas and bears from a home-made concoction of flour, water, salt, cream of tartar and oil, would save me in a moment of Beijing bunny-cake need.
The butter icing was a little rancid (endemic to life in China, where my ayi constantly mistakes it for cheese), the jello pond was a little lumpy, and the baby rabbit turned out looking a bit... er - "special". But the main thing is, it brought gasps of delight from my brand new eight-year-old.
And that’s enough to make any mum sigh with relief, and smile with contentment.
Happy birthday, darling Ella.
