A blissful day to arrive in Tasmania - we flew into Launceston airport to sunshine and cloud - a cool 12 degrees. Heading north, we drove straight up the Tamar River, through the stunning Tamar Valley which is dotted with vineyards. Above is a view over the valley half way to Beauty Point.
At Beauty Point, we drove past Platypus House and Seahorse World, more interested in a drink at the local pub, right on the water. With a wood fire burning, we snuggled inside and mulled over a map, plotting our route to Latrobe, just south of Devonport. We wanted to arrive there before dark, and it gets dark in Tassie quickly in winter.
On the way to Latrobe, we stopped at Beaconsfield, which is famous for its gold mine.
We arrived at Latrobe by 5pm, just as dark was falling and settled into our Sherwood B&B, just south of town. Home to the Quiet Cone.
