Okay - so I'm at the half-way mark.
I'm surprised at how things are going. I thought I'd be gagging for a 5.30 G&T, a 7pm Chardy, a 10pm snifter of brandy by the fire. But I'm okay. Sure, come Cactus Hour, I'd love a wee sip of something strong, but I've discovered tactics to deal with this.
I've come up with a soda lime and bitters thing. Alcohol-free, low on calories and totally sating. It's like people who hold a piece of white chalk or a pen between their fingers to trick their brains into thinking they're smoking a cigarette. Sure, it may not be easy, but it's doable.
Weird thing is - for all the willingness and enjoyment I receive from having a drink - I AM NOT MISSING IT. Really. I feel better. I feel lighter, happier, less crabby, sleeping better, losing weight, all that. I feel clearer, in a better mood. It's a good thing.
What's even better is the message I'm sending my closely-watching kids. I don't need alcohol. I don't need it to function, I don't need it to rescue me, and I don't need it to ruin my life. I can choose to drink in moderation - I can look after both my health AND my mind and heart.
I'll be the first to admit I was kinda sceptical about going on this Ocsober journey for Life Education Australia. I was nervous I'd be able to stick to it. Over half way through, I have to say I'm feeling a little bit proud of myself for coping fine and for taking a stand on educating kids to do better with their lives.
The LAST thing I like to do is pester people and indeed, I couldn't sell a Rolex for $5, I'm that useless at asking people to part with money. But here I go - PLEASE PLEASE donate to this cause. Life Education Australia have been helping families for almost 30 years to live brighter, better and healthier lives. Healthy Harold the giraffe tours schools educating kids on healthy eating, self-esteem and bullying issues, as well as educating on the harmful effects of a life steeped in drugs and alcohol. The organisation needs your help to continue this important work.
Click on the icon below and make a donation to help Life Education raise the most money ever to educate children on the effects of substance abuse. I don't care if it's a dollar, please please get clicking. It takes less than a minute, you can pay by paypal or credit card and you can do so from anywhere in the world. I have a $5K target and I'm far from it, so please help.
I'd so appreciate your sponsorship, and I know the kids will thank you, too.

I'm proud of you girlie - I wish the US had something like this! Who knows, maybe an entire year will pass and you won't have a drink . . . before you know it, three + years will have passed with nary a drink insight (that's me)

How do you DO that (goes years without a drink)? Do you just not feel like it??? I know you're not a big drinker... but still! x
Honestly I'm not a big drinker, but I definitely think a margarita is in order to celebrate a month being sober ;) Thanks for stopping by, I think I recognised quite a few of your photos from Party Perfect, no?
