happy mother's day

Sunday 8 May 2011

Mother's Day is a bittersweet time in our house. It's a time to celebrate motherhood and give thanks for the most beautiful mother-in-law in the world, but it's also a time to remember my own mum, who died far too young.

Today I'm going to revel in the children she never met, delight in the moments that will create our future, and bask in the memory of a mum who was my best friend, my mentor, my heart. It's been more than 20 years since she died, yet the pain of her loss still hits me - cruelly, unexpectedly.

But today is not a day for sadness, it's a day for celebration and love. Happy Mother's Day, darling Mum.

What a beautiful photo - you look so much like your Mum, Tania. And just think how proud she'd be of all you're doing, as a mum yourself and in your career. xx

Your mother is beautiful. I understand, my mom died 15 years ago when I was 24. It's a pain that never goes away. Here's to all of us motherless mothers!

Dear Beth - daughters losing mothers breaks my heart. It is the single-most difficult thing I have ever endured - and is my greatest personal fear. Let us miss and hold our mums close, together. x

hugs across the ocean my sweet friend! She's watching you now - guiding you through this success - with a simple smile on her face, knowing in her heart you would do it some day! You are awesome! Love you! T

Prudence - so sorry to hear you also lost your mum. You're right - the pain never goes; we just perhaps learn to deal with it better. Hugs.

It makes for a sad mother day. My Mother-In-Law died last year the day before Mothers Day, so it was a hard day for my husband and myself to try to find the enthusiasm to enjoy Mothers Day for our children.

However we did have a lovely day.

I'm so sorry, Jen. Mothers should not be allowed to leave us!!!
