NYR12 longest bookmark challenge
Saturday, 18 February 2012
The National Year of Reading is becoming the hottest event in the country. Not only is it Important, it is also fun!
Dickson Library in the ACT have come up with this brilliant initiative - they are attempting to create the world's longest bookmark and are asking knitters to get on board. Their aim is to create a bookmark long enough to stretch 4.07 km from Dickson Library to Civic Library here in Canberra. To do that, over 19,000 bookmarks are needed.
After the project is completed, it's planned for the bookmarks to be sewn into blankets for local charities.
Join the Dickson Library knitting group on Wednesdays from 1.30 pm - 3.00 pm throughout the year. Alternatively you can knit at home and drop your completed bookmarks into the library (or post them in - Dickson Library, Dickson Shops, Dickson ACT 2602.
I'll be blogging about my bookmarks right here. Will you grab some yarn and join me?

Hi Tania - is the size the only guideline? No restrictions on colour, pattern, detail etc? Sounds like great fun - might even get Miss 5 involved!! :)
No other restrictions; hope you can get involved! Will also be getting Ella to knit up a storm - love it that Miss 5 is also knitting!
