An Aussie Year Launch at Paperchain, Canberra

Saturday, 26 October 2013

A gorgeous launch at Paperchain Bookstore in Manuka today for An Aussie Year--the second and final launch for the book! We set up at the back of the store with balloons and bunting and colouring sheets for the kiddles, not to mention Tina Snerling's wonderful speech balloons and ... the ever-popular lolly bar!

It was so lovely to meet some new people and welcome dear friends and colleagues who are so supportive of my books.

Below is the gorgeous Posie with her daughters -- No.3 girl toting a stunning gift for me -- a basket full of Aussie flowers. So precious.

Signing books before we'd even begun!

The divine Stephanie Owen Reeder--author and friend--launched An Aussie Year with some truly beautiful words. They made me want to buy the book!

After a reading and lots of sensational responses from those very clever kids, it was time to attack the lolly bar!

And settle in to sign some more books.

With the gorgeous Gina Newton who launched her Blossom Possum and the Christmas Quacker a few days ago.

Three gorgeous girls (my daughter Ella is at right).

And my beautiful Riley (who shares a February birthday with me).

And I simply adore this picture of me and a friend from my Beijing days--we hadn't seen each other in six years and she showed up to the launch! We're doing one of those 'John and Martha' hugs, where you run to one another. High drama, high fun.

Thank you to my BEAUTIFUL friend Sylvia for these superb photos and for always being there for me. Thank you to Paperchain for hosting and to my family for ever-patiently going to another event.

Thank you to everyone who came along; it struck me on the way home what a gorgeous bunch of people the literary world are--I feel so blessed to know each and every one of these superb people. Not only are they so supportive but they are great fun and they love a good time, especially one stacked high with books! I so love to see parents and grandparents embrace the knowledge that exposing kids events like these helps encourage a lifetime love-of-books that's truly priceless.

I've had an intense few months of book promo--and am now on the final stretch--by the third week of November I'll be on holidays! It's been an incredibly busy time but I can't deny it's been a heart-stirring ride.
