Day 24: controversial. #bookaday #mylittlebookcase What I find highly controversial is the text changes to modern versions of some of Enid Blyton's classic tales. Changing Fanny to Fran and 'swot' to 'bookworm' undermines the intelligence of children and robs them of the chance to learn and appreciate vocabulary from different times and places. I vehemently oppose the trend to treat juvenile readers like morons. Kids learn language via context as much as literal explanation and I think this 'modernizing' trend with classic books needs to stop.
