Canberra's inaugural Playdate for the Planet is here!

Have an interest in saving the planet and having some fun? Canberra's inaugural Playdate for the Planet aims to bring like-minded families together, to network, share and form relationships that heighten our awareness of and dedication to lowering our impact on the planet.

This is also a great opportunity to learn more about community groups and organisations that support environmentally friendly family lifestyles.

Newcastle's Playdate for the Planet on 24 October 2009 was a huge success, and local gals Rebecca Pollock and Emma Davidson have been inspired to start Canberra's version, with a view to growing the event with organised activities, outings and entertainment.

Playdate for the Planet will be held at Black Mountain Peninsula play area, at the southern end of Garryowen Drive in Acton on Thursday 25 February from 10am. There will be a shaded play area for kids, an amenities block and plenty of free parking.

Families are encouraged to bring morning tea and have some fun with their children, whilst sharing their experiences with:

· Cloth or eco-nappies, cloth wipes and elimination communication
· Solar power and alternative energy sources
· Rainwater tanks and greywater recycling
· SOLE food (Sustainable, Organic, Local, Ethical)
· Organic backyard food gardening, including composting, worm farms, heritage fruit and vegetables, seed saving and exchange etc.
· Backyard chooks, bees or even goats!
· Bike riding and other low impact transport options
· Preloved clothing and items, reconstructing, sewing and other eco-crafts
· Activities and books to help children understand environmental issues
· ‘Frugal living’ or reducing consumption, to reduce waste and energy use...

...and many more!

Come along and join in the fun! - meet other kids, parents, carers and families, have a chat, have a play and show your interest in caring for the planet!
