Well, can I just say that I am not one to be rendered speechless very often... but these cakes at the Riley and the Curious Koala book launch at Dalton's in Canberra today... they deserve a blog post of their own.
When the lovely Elizabeth Wright from pARTy cakes here in Canberra said she’d be happy to provide cakes for the launch, I expected something really special (I’ve seen her work before and trust me – it’s amazing). But when she turned up with this… well, I sort of lost it.
Can you even believe how beautiful?
Writing books is a labour-of-love, heart-wrenching kind of thing. My book characters rendered in icing atop the most glamorous (and utterly moist-dark-chocolate delicious!) cupcakes in the world… I can’t tell you what it meant to me.
Liz put so much time and effort and generosity into these cakes – I know what they took to make, and they just blew me away.
Thank you, Liz for being so clever and amazing. I adore these cakes so much, I am keeping panda and koala forever on my desk. They were rescued by my daughter Ella… the kids went for the cakes like a plague of locusts (no surprise there!) so I’m still stunned she managed to snaffle these two for me.
I will treasure them always.
You absolutely must check out Liz’s cakes at her pARTy cakes website. And her cookies, too. You won’t believe them – so so sooo must-have for a special occasion (or any occasion!). I want to get married again so I can have her make my cake and cookies!!! And great news - Liz will be at the Handmade Canberra Christmas market on 4 December... so come along and check out her goodies!
The cupcakes certainly put my own humble creations in the shade! But everything looked so gorgeous together.
The kids were treated to a Sydney-themed candy bar with The Rocks rocky road, lamington Wombats, Sydney Opera House meringues, Gum Leaf mint leaves, Mini Koala cookies, Sydney Stones jaffas, Gumnut Berry raspberries and red licorice Aussie Twists.
There were also Koala Canes for that Christmas vibe. And kids sipped on Euc Juice cartons while adults helped themselves to a cuppa.
Stay tuned for more launch photos tonight!!
And these little critters - Koala (seen here with some of my other treasures like the Riley plate from the lovely Paula of little living for the Dancing Lion launch last year) and Panda, poised on his cupcake, will stay with me forever... Well, maybe not the cupcake part... but definitely the panda on top!
Just in case you missed it... incredible!! Ace of Cakes, eat your heart out...

Wow! These look amazing Tania. Congratulations on the launch! Are you still launching at Beecroft on Friday? I hope to get there - but will have to hurry back to a school function. :(
Hi Jacqui - thank you! It was so much fun. I won't be in Beecroft, no - I had to postpone, as my husband was going to China... and then told me just last week he didn't need to go any more - I was furious!!! BUT I will come to Sydney, hopefully February, to do some readings - hope to see you!
