country road beanie

Saturday, 9 April 2011

Drooling over the latest Country Road catalogue, I've already earmarked several items for my Winter Wishlist, however, having recently come through a bout of knitting for my latest craft book, I took one look at this adorable beanie and knew I didn't have to fork out hard-earned cash for it - I could make it myself.

Here is how I did it . . .

 ingredients.

100g ball 8 ply wool
6mm knitting needles
large-eyelet sewing needle

 method.

Cast on 80 stitches
Row one: K2, P3 to end (right side)
Row two: K3, P2 to end
Repeat these two rows until work measures 23 cm
Final row: K2 tog until end
Cut yarn, leaving a 40cm tail. Thread tail through sewing needle and loop through all stitches, pulling tight to close the beanie's crown. With right sides facing, stitch up side seam, matching stitch for stitch. Invert.

Et voilĂ ! A gorgeous CR-esque beanie, quick as a whip and cheap as a chip. Thanks to my lovely model Ella - I'll have to make her another smaller one (just cast on 75 st instead). I'm thinking bright red. What colour will yours be?

Love it! Might have to get my MIL onto this for me...

PS - you have to buy a maxi skirt from Country Road. I'm wearing a charcoal grey one at the moment and it's the comfiest thing EVER.
