LIfe is So Fragile

Sunday 21 March 2010

I'm really shaken today.

I know that people die in car accidents all the time - we hear about it every day to the point where we almost become numb.

But last night, right in the heart of Canberra, on a road I travel on frequently, two idiots in a stolen car rammed into a young couple and their 4 month old baby, killing all three. The idiot in the stolen car also died and his female passenger is now fighting for her life.

The thing is, we saw the wreckage of these cars when out driving this morning. I will never get the image out of my mind - all that was left of one car was the boot.

It's just horrific. That lovely young couple, probably driving home from a friend's house, unaware their life was about to end thanks to a degenerate human being who considers stealing cars and joy riding a hoot. And that dear, precious little baby... I am just devastated.

I am so angry and appalled and devastated for this young couple's family and friends. Whomever you are, and wherever you are, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

It's times like this that we need to appreciate how fragile life is - how we can't, for a single moment, underestimate the joy and power of being alive and celebrating life. Forget the bullshit and the hooha and the everyday niggling drama that haunts you - celebrate life with your loved ones right now.

Why oh why does it take tragedy to remind us how precious life is?

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Tania my love, you have given me goosebumps like the breaking news. It's horrible, i often think of this situation, i'm here with precious cargo of 4 children, my husband in a war zone - who is in my danger?? It just adds that extra devestation when it's car theives or drunk drivers. Shudder. So unfair, untimely & unimaginable. Canberra is way too small a town for this. Hugs Tania, love Posie

It is a tragedy, but we also need to remember that this so-called degenerate was someone's son, grandson, nephew and cousin.

I know of some amazing people who went off the rails when young, but thankfully, through the love, strength and support of family, found their way back.

I am sure a mother is crying with her loss and guilt and despair for him.

Alas, this person who did this idiotic crime will NOT have a chance to quite possibly redeem himself. And THAT is sad.

Tragedy all round.

I drove past the site this morning and burst into tears when I saw all the flowers. I just don't understand why people do that? Such an unnecessary loss of life. It's the second terrible accident on Canberra Ave in the past week, just wish more people would take care and consider the impact of their driving on others.

My heart goes out to the victims' family.

How about MY timing... I drove past when the vehicle wreckage was still there AND I drove past when the FAMILY MEMBERS were there! They had a camera crew set up and were obviously filming it for tv.

I will never forget the look on the faces of the people there.

Just heartbreaking.
