No-sugar, no-wheat, no-dairy, no alcohol - DAY TEN

Monday 1 March 2010

Woke feeling deflated about rice cracker blow-out last night.

Got on the digital scales and YET AGAIN my weight has not fluctuated a single gram. Banged scales with my first and gathered weighty supplies to hold and re-test weight to see if scales were broken. Alas, they were working perfectly.

Cursed my sedentary career choice and got the kids their breakfast. My breakfast was oats, nuts, pepitas, sunflower seeds and a scattering of dried cranberries with a little skim milk. Again. (Lucky I love it.)

Despite blow-out last night, my physical condition was not too bad this morning and the worst of it was that my breath was a little sour again. I guess this is what happens when we force food down our gullets too close to bedtime. Bedtime is when our bodies need to be free of digestive worries – and focus on detoxying, repairing and strengthening.

Got into second homeopathic remedy from naturopath and it lifted my mood almost immediately. A cup of hot tea also helped. If in doubt, have a nice cup of tea, I always say.

Had a good day mood-wise and ate well. Didn’t fit exercise in, alas, but did buzz around a little.

Then, I went to the salon.

Cannot believe glamorousness oozing from hair follicles. That’s right. Went to the salon for the third time in one entire year. And had my colour done at the salon for the first time in close to a decade (!). I know. Could it be..? Could it be that I am actually feeling more interested in taking care of myself and my looks again???

Intriguing.

Friends and colleagues coming out of woodwork wanting to detox – either through sheer synchronicity, or through cottoning on to what I’m doing and want to know more. Love it.

Had a great evening. Didn’t feel starving like last night. Made spaghetti and meatballs for the kids, but husband and I had our sauce (me – no balls) on shredded, steamed cabbage*. Now before you gag, this is actually utterly delicious. When covered in spaghetti sauce, you simply cannot taste the ‘cabbagey’ flavour and the texture is similar to firm pasta.

Not only was this dish delish, it felt wonderful gobbling a mass of cruciferous vegetable for its anti-cancer properties. Cruciferous vegies such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, radishes, bok choy and watercress contain phytochemicals called isothiocyanates, which stimulate our bodies to break down potential carcinogens.

When was the last time you ate cabbage? I’ll let you know the other side effects of eating so much cabbage, tomorrow…
